Because in the previous antediluvian version of spelling, no vowel of the word “bird” in French is pronounced like its name suggests, and even the “s” of “oiseau” is pronounced “z”! In addition, if they are in packs, we append an “x” which is not pronounced!!! I know that this should not look so strange for English speaking people who use to pronounce every vowel as a, e, i, o or u, as usage goes!

I heard on TV that the spelling should only change depending on usage and not by dictates for dictations. But the brave man who said that, had he realized that spelling is imposed by our secular education and is, thereby, standardized and untouchable. When the people want to change the use, they speak slang or SMS, but they do not touch the sacrosanct vocabulary learned under hypnosis. And that’s why it’s bad students who want to reform the spelling, an attempt even more pathetic as now everyone has a computer checker at its disposal…

When the mechanics needed standards so that their vehicles could be manufactured and maintained anywhere, they made them themselves, knowingly.
